内容記述 | Sutra mounds, called kyozuka in Japanese, have been created since the 11th century in Japan. It is confirmed that some initial sutra mounds were established by burying Buddhist scriptures in the ground in order to keep them for 5,670,000,000 years. It would be effective to evaluate the present condition of the remains and excavated relics of sutra mounds from the viewpoint of conservation science for considering the long-term conservation of materials in the future. In the 12th century, there were people who considered the way of conserving Buddhist scriptures by inspecting the conditions of materials buried in the past. That way of thinking in the 12th century is almost the same as the present methods of conservation science. Observation of materials passed down to the present leads to the conclusion that materials kept continuously on the ground with appropriate management and maintenance are preserved generally better than the materials continuously buried underground. It is also revealed, however, that when management and maintenance are not continued, e.g. due to natural and / or human-induced disasters, damages and dissipation may be reduced by burial. Because sutra mounds are the evidence that people in the past tried to keep materials for long-term management plan, it is also required for us to take over the remains and excavated relics concerning sutra mounds appropriately to the next generation. | |||||
