| 内容記述 | In this part of the report, the attire purportedly used by Yorinobu TOKUGAWA (1602-1671), the tenth son of Ieyasu TOKUGAWA and the first clan master at Wakayama, is discussed. Yorinobu had his initial battle experience at the age of thirteen at Osaka and the war costumes used on this occasion are kept in the Kishū Tōshōgū Shrine. They include rare costume types and textile types as seen in Pls. I to VII and figs. 13 to 33. They show strong influence from attire introduced by European trading boats. For instance, the ruffs of Pls. III a, b, c and IV a are of the kind which was popular in European countries from the sixteenth century to the beginning of the seventeenth century. This was introduced to Japan and often painted in So-called namban screens (fig. 18). However, actual remaining examples are few. Besides the piece in the Victoria and Albert Museum and the piece in the Basel Museum, the three pieces introduced here are almost the only remaining examples. |
