The use of gold pigment is conspicuous and the margin is decorated with a painted design. A single wide sheet of silk is shared both by the main composition and the painted margin design. The composition of Nirvāṇa itself measures 203.8 by 215.9 cm.\n Śākyamuni Buddha and other deities occupy a large space and the animals below are confined in a narrow space. The work is characterized by the exaggerated mourning expression of the Bodhisattvas, the juxtaposition of deep colours on the costumes of deities and the abundant use of gold patterns. The lamenting facial expression with red touches around the eyes and with exposed teeth has more human feeling than usual Nirvāṇa paintings and the clothes of the kings are exceptionally brilliant. As for the animals, gold lines are added to the fine rendition of the hair of the monkey. This must\nbe a Sung Chinese influence, for similar use of gold is known in a painting of a monkey attributed to Mao Sung (Important Cultural Property; Tokyo National Museum).\n The adoption of painted margin is often seen in works from around the fourteenth century. The method of colouring the body and drapery of Buddha in gold and his small proportion to the format suggest that the painting is from the Nambokucho Period or thereabouts, that is, the fourteenth century. Although Sung influence is detectable in the rendition of the monkey, no ink-painting-like elements are found. This must mean that the work was executed by an artist in the current of traditional Buddhist painters.\n In this painting, motifs other than Buddha himself intrigue the viewer more strongly. This seems to reflect the trend of the period that the artistic interest was generally shifting from Buddhist subjects to secular subjects.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"関口, 正之"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Sekiguchi, Masayuki","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2017-10-05"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"347_34_Sekiguchi_Redacted.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"9.0 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_11","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"347_34_Sekiguchi_Redacted.pdf","url":"https://tobunken.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/6301/files/347_34_Sekiguchi_Redacted.pdf"},"version_id":"60942d2f-48a0-4c08-b4a9-5a3e84aa15e8"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"journal article","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"図版解説 大阪・長宝寺蔵仏涅槃図","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"図版解説 大阪・長宝寺蔵仏涅槃図"},{"subitem_title":"Explanation of Plates: “Nirvana” kept by the Chohoji, Osaka","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"10001","owner":"3","path":["1017"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2017-10-05"},"publish_date":"2017-10-05","publish_status":"0","recid":"6301","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["図版解説 大阪・長宝寺蔵仏涅槃図"],"weko_creator_id":"3","weko_shared_id":3},"updated":"2023-05-15T14:36:36.847975+00:00"}
