内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 The Tate Galleries in Britain have been conducting a project ‘Tate - Interviews with Artists' in partnership with the Amsterdam-based INCCA (International Network for the Conservation of Contemporary Art) over the last ten years. For the project, conservators and curators interview contemporary artists, and the records (sound recordings, videos, transcripts, etc.) are kept and shared among specialists and researchers worldwide through the IDAA – INCCA Database for Artists' Archives - on the Internet.
The significance of this project is related to the ongoing frictions between the museum as an institution with a particular set of conventional practices and perspectives and contemporary artists who often problematise them. Contemporary artists utilise a broader range of materials to produce their works. Some were unavailable until the twentieth century (e.g. plastics, electronic devices); others
have been available before, but regarded unsuitable for works of art (e.g. fresh flowers, ice cubes, soil). The nature of these materials would challenge professionalism of conservators and curators in practice and concept - such as the dichotomy of the original and the copy, the concept of 'completed works, and the museum's mission to collect and conserve objects in their original state. Nevertheless, both artists and museums have long been aware of the dilemma that such anti-institutional art works would be usually displayed in museum galleries, often acquired and looked after by museums.
The artist interview project of the Tate and the INCCA provides both the museum and the artist a mutually profitable opportunity for their communications. Furthermore, their archives are valuable resources for the future of contemporary art works.
