Kikuya Yoshio introduced the Sango-kai in a Bijutsu Kenkyû No. 377 article, and compilations of the materials related to this group were presented in The Bijutsu Kenkyû 376 and 377. This article is related to this materials assembly. This article introduces 20 plates of works by the Sangokai artists that were originally published as the “Sango-kai issue” of Seikasha's publication, Shinsaku Seika (Vol. 3, No. 2, February 1920). Another special issue on the Sangokai (reproduced in Bijutsu Kenkyû No. 376) was published in the Shinsaku Seika Vol. 2, No. 2. The Shinsaku Seika was composed solely of monochrome plates, without essays or critiques, presenting new examples of Nihonga in each issue. It was one of the magazines published by Seikasha, a company that largely handled the exhibition catalogues and painting compendia related to the Nihon Bijutsuin. Given the information in previously collected Sango-kai materials and the period in which Shinsaku Seika Vol. 3, No. 2 was published, the paintings in the 20 plates illustrated in this article were exhibited in the 6th Sango-kai exhibition held at Nihonbashi Takashimaya from January 25th to 29th, 1920. The Sango-kai's characteristic haiga-esque and manga-esque tendency is fully apparent in these pictures, for example, in the works by Ikeda Eiji, who was also a member of the Tokyo Manga-kai. Conversely, the works of Ishizuka Kan, which have the scent of decadence that runs through all beauty paintings of the Taishô era, and the works of Ogawa Senyô and Yamamura Kôka with their rare examples of classical subject matter amidst the Sango-kai's predominance of contemporary genre motifs, indicate the fascinating fact that the Sango-kai style included some different elements.}, pages = {90--94}, title = {研究資料 珊瑚会資料集(補遺その二)}, year = {2009} }
