| 内容記述 | Mori Ôgai, both a military physician and one of Japan's major modern authors, was also deeply involved in the art world of his day. This exhibition introduces Ôgai's activities in the field of art, while also seeking to reconsider Japanese modern art from the focal point of Ôgai. The exhibition is divided into two sections, with an additional reference materials section. The first section, whose Japanese title can be translated as “friends linked by art: with Harada Nojirô” focused on the lives and works of Harada, a leader of the so-called Old School and Resin School. The section also displayed works by the Hakubakai group, such as Kuroda Seiki and other proponents of the New School and Purple School. Thus the section provides an overview of the history of Japanese western style painting. The second section's title can be translated as “The glory and action produced by art, Ôgai's multi-faceted nature.” This section was the first intentional attempt to consider the relationship between medicine/the military and the arts. This section with its display of rare works can be highly praised for its ability to make its viewers consider the multifaceted nature of Japanese modern art.
