 note = {The mural painting in Takamatsuduka Tumulus is famous for its vivid color when it was excavated in 1972. It is also the first painting designated as a national treasure in Japan. There are many reports written by scientists and archaeologists on the painting materials in Takamatsuduka Tumulus from the beginning of its discovery until now. In this paper, we surveyed the scientific studies of the pigments and the base material used in Takamatsuzuka Tumulus and reconsidered what issues are still left from the point of view of material study. We hope that this review contribute to further study in obtaining information on the painting technique as well as materials of ancient burial ceremonies.},
