 note = {In the last few years, there have been reports that the decline of traditional performing arts (folk performing arts) in village communities is becoming greater in the midst of decrease in population in various regions throughout Japan due to the ageing of communities and the decline in the number of children.
     As UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage went into effect in 2006, measures to promote these traditional cultures have been launched on a global scale. More than half a century before this, Japan began to develop measures to protect intangible cultural heritage. This has been followed by Korea. As someone who was working in a position directly related to this matter, the present author thinks that the worsening of the situation is becoming more severe recently even though the decline of traditional cultures have been pointed out from before. According to a recent article in The Economist , Japan is at the head of the ageing society, which is the main factor in this phenomenon, and Germany and other developed countries are paying attention to how Japan will respond to this situation.
     In such circumstances, many people in various areas are considering how the tradition of folk performing arts that they have inherited from their ancestors can be passed on to future generations. In this paper, the situations of kakeodori of Shimo-Ina (Nagano prefecture), hanamatsuri (Aichi prefecture) and Kurosawa-no dengaku (Aichi prefecture) are examined to see in concrete terms what damages have been made and what can be done to countermeasure them. By closing in on the traditional performing arts of these areas that have been transmitted physically, by word of mouth and bodily movements, it is hoped that it may be possible to call the attention of all concerned to the future of traditional performing arts in these areas.},
